Not sure your still looking for advice on the VTX 1300 but I got an 2004 VTX 1300 last year and totally love it. Rides smooth. I did put a hyper charger on it and it does have plenty of power. I also put a bat wing fairing and trunk on for those long trips. Great bike in my opinion.

Do you find it comfortable on long rides?

Yes I think it's pretty comfortable on long rides. I still have the stock seat installed. My son says the back seat isn't very comfortable. I'm planning on painting it next spring. I don't like the silver that is on it. It was like that when I bought it. Love the power it has.

Looks like a pretty low riding position ! Does it feel top heavy at low speed?

My son has a VT1100, which is the pappy of the VTX1300. It's not top heavy at all, and very manageable at low speeds. They do ride very differently from an XJ though.
We swapped bikes for a few weeks so I could get the maintenance caught up on his bike. When I got back onto the XJ it felt like a 350cc dirtbike in comparison.
    From my perspective:

Pros: solid and unwavering ride in all conditions. It's near impossible to get blown around in heavy winds (25 MPH + gusts). Torque EVERYWHERE. With some ergo changes it would be an all-day rider for me. The stock seat is pretty dang comfy, and would be perfect with mid controls to get some weight off of the backside and onto the thighs.

Cons: No chance of riding comfortably on dirt roads; partially because of the forward controls (can't stand up). No top-end rush. No cornering clearance, and no hanging off to compensate (forward controls again).

I like it, but would not want one as my only ride.

No it's not top heavy at all at low speeds. AS K-moe said it doesn't have much cornering clearance. I drag my foot pegs when I'm riding the twisty mountains around where I live. I jump on my Virago if I'm in the mood to really lay into the twisty mountain roads. I got this bike to take on long road trips to see my daughter who is approx 180 miles away. It does great for those type of trips.

Yes it is K-moe. It's definitely going on lot longer rides. This year has been a not much riding year. I've been so busy on my off days building one guy bikes. He keeps bringing me old bikes to build/fix and he pays cash and the daughters college isn't free. :).

thank you guys, it gives me a very good idea! VTXs also comes in a 1800cc version, heavier but not more funny to ride. Is that right?

Yes they do come in a 1800cc version. I can't attest to if or not anymore fun to ride because I have never rode one before but I will say my 1300 is great fun to ride and I haven't had any issues with it as of yet.

Yep, but 1300 cc is already a pretty good displacement. I don't think I'd need 1800 anyhow, I've owned a Goldwing 1000 and found it had enough power.
