Just purchased a 1985 Maxim XJ700N

    Hey Guys and Gals,
    I just bought a 1985 XJ700N. It has about 19000 kilometers on it. The fellow I bought it off of had replaced the original speedometer, which had broken, with a used replacement that is in miles. It would be nice to get a replacement that is in kilometers.

    It has new 4 in 1 exhaust and he gave me the original 4 in 2 exhaust. I didn't know that the bike came stock with a 4 in 2. Is that right?

    I have also noticed that the level glass on the brake fluid resivoir and the oil level glass on the crankcase are very cloudy to the point where I cannot determine the levels accurately. Is there something I can do about that?

    The bike did originally come with a 4-2 system with a collector box under the engine.

    XJ4Ever has replacement sight glass for the brake master cylinder (the original is plastic). Start a conversation with Chacal for a pric quote.

    The crankcase sight glass can be cleaned, but you will have to drain the oil and remove the clutch cover to do so.

    Read the following thread, do all the things, trust nothing told to you by the seller.

    4 into 2 is original .......look at my 700 in my gallery, or any other number of 700's (and Maxim X's.....). you'll see what came on your bike
