If I m starting a duplicate thread please forgive me. I just acquired a 1982 xj750 seca and I didn't get any keys or title (bike was free with bill of sale). The gas cap is closed and I need to open it. Any ideas about how to open it without destroying it. Any help will be appreciated.

The key code can be found under the ignition cylinder. You'll need to remove the headlight, and instruments to get to it.

Some locksmiths won't make a new key for it, either.....unless you carry the ignition switch in with you----

That works if the bike had matching keys, if not take the tank to him and have him pick the lock. I do have the tools so I pick them myself ,it's not that tough once you manage to do the first one ... after a few hundred times it's like taking Halloween candy from your grandson.

Well yeah, that's a given. It's also the easiest thing to try first… And it doesn't damage the cylinder. Even I don't have luck picking stuff-and I don't know how to do it anyway… LOL
