They've been doing a massive amount of road construction around my office lately and as a result I've got a bunch of asphalt and tar on the front and underside of my bike.

For a lot of reasons, busy/lazy/tired/worn out, I didn't get it cleaned off right away. What do you guys use to remove this stuff without damaging the engine paint and chrome on the pipes?

I have had good results with WD-40. Good old kerosene will also work in a pinch.

Could you just pour a little seaform in a a spray bottle? Or just pour a little on a rag? The whole top shelf at the Rural King store has seafoam, but I didn't see any spray cans...

Well I went out and bought a couple of cans of Deep Creep and that worked ok enough to get the surface tar off everything but the pipes.

Turns out though that Castrol Super Clean takes the damn baked-on tar right off those pipes with a little effort. I didn't want to use it on anything else because I know that damn "purple stuff" etches aluminum and ruins paint easily. On the crome though it worked wonders.

I still haven't gotten all the baked-on tar off yet but I should be able to finish that tomorrow without too much trouble.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! :)
