some how my petcock on my 82 seca 550 was left on the primer position for over a week. Bike ran fine before this happen. I did not try to start because I fear there is gas in transmission. I plan to drain the oil and then try to start it. Is there anything else I should do before starting it

Open the oil filler cap see if you smell gas. If the float needles are good it probably didn't leak and you are ok. If you smell gas in the oil simply drain the oil, add new oil and go ride. However,at some point you will want to check the float needles and seats.

I left mine on prime for a whole winter one year.
Clean carbs with good float needles = no gas leaked anywhere.

Thank you for the advice. I checked the oil and it smells find. I will to start her up this weekend. I have heard that if you try to start a bike that has gas in the crankcase it can be dangerous. That is why I did not try to start it after I saw the primer was on it

when you look into the sight glass to check the oil you should have an air bubble at the top. You can use this to tell if gas has leaked into the crank case.
I put my bikes on the center stand and use a level across the frame and a wood shim to level the bike from side to side.
