another oil question

    I have read several questions and responses dealing with oil on the XJ's. I have an 86 XJ700. I am not seeing the oil fill window. I had a yamaha 80 when I was a kid and so I know what it looks like but I am not seeing one on this bike. Also the only place I can find to add oil is on the right side near the footpeg. Is this the crankcase and is this where you add the oil? there is no dipstick. I am pretty sure that is where the oil goes but don't want to do anything stupid. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Yup, That is the Oil filler hole. If you look on the bottom you'll surely notice a glass window there, that is the window which tells you how much Oil there already is in the tranny.

    If you look at this picture...

    On the very left-hand side, you'll see at the top where you put oil in and at the bottom the oil level window where you check the oil. Note: the bike must be level, i.e. on the center stand and on flat ground when checking the oil level.
