Hi I'm having a problem with removing the main jets on 2 of my 4 hitachi hsc33 carbs. The main jet is spinning in the tube underneath. Is there any way to get these apart. The carbs were very dirty. Have heard a lot of problems caused by those tubes being clogged. Anyone that has seen this before any help would be appreciated.

Use your finger to hold the emusion tube still at the carb-throat end (you should remove the top-hat and slide if you have not done so already). The jet really shouldn't be able to spin the tube since it's what locks the tube into place, but a if the tube has a loose fit...

Okay thanks I will try that see if it works. I tried grabbing the copper washer gently with a pair of vise grips but the jet would not come loose. Just spinning with the tube underneath.

I wantsome clarity. When it spins, that's happening while you are using a screwdriver to unscrew the jet; is that correct?

Sounds like the emulsion tube is so loose it is dropping away from the "key" and turning. Lets hope the emulsion tube is not stripped and spinning past the key. Adding pressure from the air intake side of the emulsion tube while unscrewing should take care of that, as stated by others.

The emulsion tube has no key, or other indexing/locking device. It is held by a friction fit.

Unless he's mistaken about what carbs he's working on (does occasionally happen).

If it's for the bike in his avatar, which is a 700 airhead, then he has Hitachi carbs

Yes it is, but based on what the OP posted, and what bike is in his avatar, those are not the carbs the OP is working on.

    I disagree. With everything.

Chacal was first to mention mikunis. He's prolly right about them, but the info doesn't apply to OP's question .
