Hi I'm trying to install my carbs, recently installed a factory air box from pods, problem is I do not have enough room the air box is all the way up against frame and I do not have enough room to slip either side of carb onto boots. Is there a special trick I don't know about. Thanks in advance for your help.

You have to partially push the air boots into the air box to give you some extra room to slip the carbs between the intake boots and the air boots. Then force the carbs back in the intake boots, and finally pull the air boots out of the air box and slip them on carbs.

Warm the boots with a hairdryer, and use a dull phillips screwdriver to help pry/move them around.

K-moe's suggestion is key here! You'll be amazed at how the warm/pliable boots make all the difference in the world... That and of course making sure your boots are pushed into the airbox as Quebec suggests.

I've had my carbs out a few times now. The first time was a real PITA. Each time the in/out process has gotten easier as you learn the little tricks of maneuvering them.

I've even used the hairdryer in August! It works. Soften those puppies!

I have an old pick with the last inch bent at a 90 degree angle that is really helpful in getting the boots on the carbs.

It's clear that k-moe is confused as to which "Old Pick" you are referring to... as am I.

Please pick one of kmoe's pick pics, or pick your own pick pic.
And remember, you can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friend's nose!

It's actually about the size of a medium screwdriver with the end ground to a point and the end bent about 90 degrees. Don't know where I got it but it would be easy to duplicate. I'll take a picture tonight and post tomorrow. It really makes it easy to get the boots, especially the two in the middle, to slide on the carb.

you can use a cheap spoon (not your wifes or mothers) and bend the handle end a little and use it like a tire spoon

or you could take an old smaller screw driver and with a little forge work make it look like this

Another thing use a little spray silicone on boots on the airbox makes the easier to pull out of airbox and slip into the groove. I can pull carbs in 15 minutes and put them in about 25 minutes with the stock airbox easy pecy . :) and I use a craftman "booger hook"
