Another probably silly question. My left fork went pretty easy. The bolt spun a bit, but I was able to have a friend tighten it as I put some pressure on the forks. Right isn't going so easy. Pumped forks up to 20lbs pushed on em and even tried vice grips on the little cap, but didn't push that too far for fear of ruining the cap. Any other tricks to getting that little bugger to tighten up?

Which lower bolt are you asking about?
The damper-rod retaining bolt? Axle pinch bolt? Somthing else?
    Assembling or disassembling?
    Which XJ?

Take the top cap back off and remove the spring.
Get a broom handle or similar.
Stick it down the fork tubes.
Use that to keep the damper rod from spinning while you tighten the damper rod bolt (remembr to use medium-strength Locktite).

Whelp looks like a rain brake for me, but I'll give it a shot once the sky clears. Thanks again k-moe. This forum wouldn't be half as good as it is without you.

Yeah, but you've stepped up admirably to fill a vacancy left by a couple of big names that have left us. Kind of a side track, but has anyone heard from Polock lately? He hasn't posted in over a month

I believe this is the time of year when the genus Polock retreats to a secluded den surrounded by the 3 B's (bacon, bourbon and beer) watching multitudes of sports and old timey movies whilst patiently awaiting the arrival of spring.

    Kidding!

Seriously hope he is doing just that and not something negative.

I dunno, your hibernation theory seems plausible.

Use an inverted sparkplug socket on a long extension if the broom handle method doesn't work.

Rick is still somewhat active; mainly on the Facebook XJ owner's group.

Not on a 750. The top of the damper rod has no hex socket for a tool to fit into.

Gotcha. I just assumed that the 650 and 750 were similar, if not the same.

Good to know if I ever get a 750.

    Parkinson's isn't it?
Tell Rick I admire his fortitude and wish him the best. (I don't have a Facebook).
I have a personal connection to that disease and (like many things in life) it challenges yourself and those that love you.
