I have a 83 maxim and I had the starter rebuilt last year but I went to start it today and it sounds like it's skipping and my starter switch seems to stick at times... Any ideas would be great. Thank you!

Check the voltage drop at the battery when you hit the start button.

Pull the controls off and clean the starter switch contacts.

    Mike,
How long has the bike been sitting? Could it be a bad battery from sitting for a while. Just want to make sure you started trouble shooting with a good battery.

battery was replaced last spring... I had it on a tender but I hit the switch it would turn over kind slow and died down quick and the starter would skip like it's not fully engaging, I guess it could be a faulty battery

OR it could be starter clutch ... worse case good reason to TS starter, start solenoid, switch first .
