Looking to sell my 82 XJ550R SECA (red, sliver strips). Bike is a runner, and is currently on the road.

    The Good:

Front calipair and M/C have been rebuilt.
    Rear shoes replaced.
New euro bars, have original bars as well.
Newer AGM batter maintained on a battery tender.
Chain and sproket has less than a 800 miles on it.
Clear Title and currently registered and plated.
    Original nice exhaust
Turn signals and rear tail light have been converted to LED with electronic LED flasher.

    Current problems:

    No front fairing.
    horn button missing.
    Primary chain noise.
Some kind of noise at 4000 rpm.
Couple of small dents in the tank. SECA Sale.jpg SECA Sale.jpg

The noise at 4000 rpm is transitional and doesn't happen every time. I haven't solved it. I have taken appart the clutch, stator cover, exhaust in search of the cause. Could not find it. Otherwise, this bike is one of the smoothest engines I've ridden, power comes on strong especially after 6000 rpm (but sliky smooth). The ride is aslo extreamly smooth with great handling. Eats up the bumps like they are not there. Asking $1300.00 and located on the west coast of central Florida. Pick or make your own shipping arrangements.

Nice 550! In regards to that noise at 4000rpm, I had it too on my Seca 550 and it had me really worried. Turned out the metal piece on the carbs that is under the float bowls resontated at that rpm and made an aweful noise. I mounted some rubber under it and eliminated it completely.

Thank you specialk, I will try that. Ironicaly I was just looking at that plate last weekend after putting the exhaust back on. But I coundn't see where any place where there could be contact. But I will try it and be a very happy camper if it works.

No worries, I was really surprised that it made such a racket hopefully that fixes it for you. I found shoving some fuel line between the float bowls and the bracket did the trick.

The plate doesn't have to contact anything to make noise. Once the engine hits a resonant frequency of the plate, the plate will vibrate and become a sounding board.

Rattle/buzz at 4000 rpm solved. Thanks specialk, less than 5 min. fix to cut up a couple of small pieces of fuel hose to stuff between the shield and the float bowls in couple of places. Noise is completely gone! I may look for a more elegant solution, like a couple of grommets. But really can't see the hose unless you look for it.

The elegant solution is to take the heat shield off. Later on, Yamaha decided that it wasn't needed.
