    Hey All,

I have been searching for some time and I'm having a bit of difficulty finding an answer. Does anyone know what exhaust is compatible with 82' Xj650? I read through some of Chacal's info and it looks like the Maxim XJ650 uses a unique crossover pipe instead of collector -- so I plan to stay in the XJ650 family.

I am mostly curious about compatibility across the years (80-83). I have my eye on an 81' XJ650 system for ~$180 which is cheaper than re-chroming my current flaked system.

    Thanks,

Yes, all 1980-84 XJ650 Maxim or Midnight Maxim exhaust systems will work. Systems from any other model will not work at all, or, only with mucho modifications.

If the only concern is the chrome, you might want to consider getting it ceramic coated (cheaper than re-chroming), or scuffing it really well and applying a high-temp paint (very cheap, but it can look bad if not prepped thoroughly).

    That's what I thought -- thanks Len.

I looked in to jet-hot and the prices for 4 pipes was ~$425! Chrome was cheaper in philly.

You're lucky to even find a shop that will re-chrome a used exahust.

I spoke to the shop today -- he said that he was going to clean out the inside with gasoline and strip the old chrome off chemically. He seemed to have done the process multiple times. I hope it's legit.

It is. Many plating shops won't do that because of the extra cost, and the risk of contaminating the chemical baths. Plus its just plain more profitable to plate new metal than old.
