1981 XJ650 Alaskan Bobber Project

    That battery box looks very cool. Please make doubly sure the battery can't slide in the mounting strap and allow the positive to come in contact with ground.

    All I have is bars that I machine and bolt it on.

    Ride it like that until you decide whether you like to ride a hardtail or not (looks don't matter if you don't like riding it).

    If you do decide to go hardtail like the OP, I don't think he didn't do any bending; just cut, fishmouth, and weld in new structural tubing to extend the fame from the front.

    I did not perform the hardtail mod, the previous owner did. The original rear upright struts may have been bent in slightly to match up with the new tubing that was installed.

    Thats looking good man. I like the frame chops good choices. I hard tailed mine too the sissy bar is not on there currently. Do you have finished pics?

    Nice bike @Dstrong77 . Hard tails/ bobbers on these either look really good or terrible, most being the latter. What rear fender is that?

    The bike is still not finished...I got sidetracked with a anXS650 and XS750 that I'm building. I like the hardtail on this bike, but I probably wouldn't have gone this low if I had done it. Clearance is/will be an issue with the pipes.
