So I was driving home from Walnut Creek last night and all of I heard a piece of metal claging on the ground and my bike started wobbling like crazy.

I pulled over and walked my bike a mile down the road to a gas station and saw a baseball sized hole here:
(jst to show where, not actual bike, I'll have a real pic later)
behind the downpipes on the front... between the engine guard sort of...
It looked as if it had blown OUT. It was running great too, I have no idea what happened...

So now should I part it out or sell it as is? I'm in Sac if anyone wants to make an offer... Other than that it is mint... I'd like to just get rid of it as a whole, but feel free to make offers for parts.

I'm done with bikes for a while till I can afford a new, reliable one. The shrapnel could have taken off my leg. WHY DID THIS HAPPEN? Temp. was normal, Oil was relatively clean and at correct level, i dunno...

I'd be interested in the exhaust (Mac?). Some other items too maybe. Since we don't live too far apart. ;)

It's still at the gas station 30 mins away from my house... I'm going to pick it up tomorrow hopefully and then I'll post a pic of the carnage.

If there's a hole in the engine it must have thrown a rod. That usually only happens when you over rev it quite a bit until something breaks while drag racing or otherwise mistreating the engine. If you drive normally it must have already been cracked from someone who rode it before you and it just now happened to break. About all you can do is replace the engine.

The area looks like the #1 connector rod came though. The bike should have had a missing cylinder also. If it ran well until you stopped then it could be something from the road broke the case. Either way, it's a new engine.

Wow! That's terrible. I know I wouldn't take it well if that happened to my X.

But~ I'm looking for an oem MaxX exhaust... If you part out and don't mind shipping let me know. Maybe the gas tank too.

Don't get rid of it, swap out the engine as a winter project if you can find a reasonable priced engine. Good luck.

I'm so sorry for you Jon, you were just thrilled with that thing. Hang on to it and swap the engine Jon. RanchoCycle Salvage should be able to hook you up. SuiCycle is another yard in Rancho that might be able to help.

Swap out the engine, huh... I'm still deciding what to do, I just got it back home.

I'll post pics soon, I tried but my camera batteries are dead and I can't find any more AA's...

You'll find an Engine to Swap-in there ... no problem.

I'm really sorry to hear about the problem with your ride. I know you have a lot of time and energy wrapped-up in her.

My sincere regrets for the breakdown or whatever happened!

I'm looking for some forward controls for my 85' XJ700 and some 11" rear shocks if you had them instead of the factory shocks so if you want to part with either one please let me know. I'm sorry for your loss I know I would be pissed if that happened to my xj so I hope everything works out for you.

Its ashame that you are not closer. I just picked up an x with 27xxx on it for $300. It isn't running, but it is mostly going to be a parts bike. Bike has a sealed tank, new petcock, new fuel sender, back rest and a bunch of other goodies...
