Avon SM mkii 5.00/16 69s

    Has anyone or does anyone know if the Avon SM mkii AM7 69s, 5.00/16 tyre will fit the XJ650 maxim(1981), Without modifying the swing arm. The tyre profile according to Avon is 132mm wide and 668mm diameter. On paper this would fit, albeit very close. I am in the process of changing shock mounts etc and if I fit this tyre, i will need shorter shocks to account for the taller tyre.

    130 is the stock rear width, but that's a bias-ply tire. If the Avon is a radial the sidewall might not be flat enough for it to fit and not rub.
    I wouldn't worry about fitting shorter shocks. The height difference won't be enough to do much other than to make the bike turn a slight bit quicker. Shorter shocks would also make it much more likely for the tire to hit the fender.

    The Avon tyre is much taller than my 130. I am hoping someone has fitted one already, so can tell me if it definitely fits. Tyre dimensions says it should, but if the tyre bows slightly it may touch the swing arm on the shaft side. My 130 tyre is 140mm at the widest and misses the swing arm by 5mm, the Avon is supposed to be only 132mm.
