Should the levels be checked while warmed up, or cold?
    Or does it even matter?

I'd check them cold to avoid burns.
Also when the carbs come off (for float adjustment) some gas could spill on a hot engine and.............. well it's anybodys guess.

The float level is given with a (quite large) + or - as close enough is close enough, though all 4 levels should match each other as best as you can. The + - tolerance would also negate any slight difference caused by changes in temperature.

Care should aways be used when fuel and hot engines are involved.

    Re: Float Level Check Results

    Results of the test
    1&2- 5mm
    3- 6mm
    4- 5 1/2 mm

Bike was cool to the touch.
    Carbs are Miks I think
    Bike on centerstand.
Fuel line was very long ( about 2-3 feet )
and measure from the middle of the fuel bowl( out side bowls 1&4)

There looked to be a slight diff between the air cleaner and engine sides of the bowl.

The levels seem low. 3mm +/- 1mm is spec. They are relativly simmilar though
    Any advise?

I'm only familiar with the Hitachi's so that's all I can comment on. They do seem low. After changing the needles and seats my bike wouldn't run, but they were much lower than yours.

You don't mention why you thought they needed checking in the first place, but for my money, if the bike is running decently l wouldn't mess with them.
If it's faltering, and I would expect that mostly under acceleration, I would.

Engine temp won't make a difference, but theoretically fuel temp could. I doubt that with the small volume we're talking about that it would make as much as a mm difference, but I guess it's possible. I'm impressed you could see a 1/2 mm at the odd angles we have to look at these things.

    Good Luck,
    Mike
