I bought this bike from a local classifieds ad that popped up..

1981 5N1 XJ750 Seca - purchase included lots of other 'bits and pieces' not shown in the pics but what im most impressed with is the mods to the frame..

You're impressed by bad welds that have been ground down?

I would strongly suggest stripping the paint and having someone who knows how to weld re-do the work.

I will say the the PO did a good job deciding how to make the cuts, and with the tube placement.

Hey k-moe, what I was impressed with was the design aspect of the changes. I have seen the wishbone dropped down to lower the seat in other builds but I haven't seen anyone strengthen the backbone and run it that far back with gussets to boot..

As far as the welds,.. i asked the PO what the hell happened but didnt get much of an answer.. he blamed his mate for the dodgywork. I still gave the PO curry for the shit work an i sent a couple of pics to a welder mate of mine so he could have a giggle

Thanks for the heds up mate. Im probably not going to put this one on the road.. unless its a real bare bones build. It is missing too many parts to make it worth it.
It did come with the 750 engine that seems usable, the bigger slotted front rotors, calipers and forks.

I may just put the bigger brakes on my 650.

Because I have a P plate license Im restricted to 650cc and under so Im wondering if I should put the 750 crank and top end onto the 650 case so I can still have a '650' motor in a 650 frame..

    Thoughts?

Good luck finding the bearing shells you'll need. New ones are getting difficult to find for a reasonable price (when you can find the right sizes).
Other than that it's a direct swap.

The engine has the displacement cast into it. Any decent inspector will catch that.
If he swaps the 750 engine complete, even a crappy inspector will catch the non-matching VIN.

Thinking about it, the displacement is cast into the cylinders, so swapping the top end won't work to hide the displacement.

Turn up the amperage, and watch the wire speed. Eyes on the pool, not the bright light.

I don't think using 'pub gas' (CO2 only) helps much either - luckily I don't do much and even less that can be seen - chassis on my VW bus.
