What did you do to your Yamaha today?

do you think that some sekund glue will not resist petrol,or some i dont know how you say in english glue for fixing gaskets.or plastic glue??

 

Andy I think Araldite would be most likely to resist petrol but the bike has no air box, must be pod filters so it will be easier to get the carburetors off again if the needle separates again. I would not use plastic glue on the needle and gasket cement is no use either. It is better to replace parts like the broken needle because it could break again far from home.

 

The viton tip just sits in place (light press fit, no adhesive). I've reused needles that have separated before. No bg deal, but buying new is better.

 

I didn't know that k-moe every day is a school day as my father used to say. That's good to know.

 

aha ,i didnt mean gasket cement i mean here we say hermetic is like ruber when gets hard.

As I am I the middle of rebuilding my xj700X I am curious as to what type of lubricant you used for the initial reassembly?
By the way your engine rebuild looks freakin amazing!

 

Well carbs are clean and back on.. Runs better than I've ever seen . Still not perfect but one step at a time.

 

Was a beautiful weekend here in Oregon, spent some time cleaning the top and bottom end of my engine. looking forward to receiving the parts this week to start the reassembly process. Hope everybody got out and rode their bikes.

 

Took my first ride of the year with the bike yesterday. Beautiful day for it. Sadly, it wasn't more than a half an hour of riding time, as I had too many things to finish before the end of the day.

 

pulled it out of the garage to find out someone unplugged my maintainer.... hoping either warranty is still good or it'll take a charge..

 

Dusting my bike off and going for a ride was "on the list" for this weekend.
Sadly it wasn't high enough up the list AND old Ma Nature decided that the weathermen were wrong about Sunday and she was going to be windy and wet. We did get all of our apple trees pruned, cut down some weed trees, the big tractor fired up and pulled some more junk out of the fields and most of the stove pipe cleaned out!

Last weekend finally got Dakota back on the road (rear end grenaded when pinion nut backed off ) So finally changed oil in XJ , old oil still clear like honey , but it was last season oil. After sitting all winter just could not bear to think of riding with "old oil" lol this past Saturday rode around block a few times was still a little chilly 52 .

 

Got my wrist pins today yeah hah!
then my wife told me that was all. Sadly they were supposed to come with the replacement rings and exhaust gaskets.
Again frustrated with the company, when I was first informed that the wrist pins had to be made which I am thankful for I agreed to have all parts sent at one time being as I couldn't do anything with them anyways with out the wrist pins. Now I get to call them again to get this straightened out.
What I am having to remember is that this may be a large company and my order got lost in the shuffle. Trying to keep positive about it though.

 

Bunch of hooey. We have lots of them in stock. As well as the ring sets. And exhaust gaskets as far as the eye can see......

 

Got my carbs and shims from Hogfiddles! Got 3 of 4 shims corrected while waiting for the glue on my valve cover to dry. AND got my registration tag put on. What a headache!

 

Rebuilt my front forks. I've never opened forks before, and strongly suspect this was this bike's first time having it's forks rebuilt judging by what passed for oil inside them. Pretty sure I didn't break anything, either! Huzzah! Also swapped out the front wheel bearings, because I had a new set of sealed bearings kicking around.

 

Will be placing order later today I need more shims

 

Took my battery off the tender, checked levels (still good from when it was put on tender) dusted off the winter dust, checked tire pressure, put battery in, petcock to prime and enrichment wide open. Cranked, it was slow, paused, cranked again and she fired up! Idling at a nice purr with the enrichment wide open, blipped throttle and was treated with a nice rise and fall of rpm's, turned the enrichment down to about half, turned to get my riding gear on and she stopped.

Got my meter, battery was at 11.98, cranked and she dropped to 6.25. No riding today. Battery is 3 years old and obviously at its end of life. I bellowed a long loud moan*, 55F and sunny, poor me.


* well it was more like a string of cuss words.
