    Hello All,

I bought clutch and brake levers from eBay that were supposed to fit my 1983 XJ750K. The brake lever fir perfectly but the clutch lever doesn't fit. The bolt hole wouldn't line up and if it did the lever wouldn't mate up correctly with the perch where they meet when the lever is released.

Looking at pictures online it almost looks more like the Seca lever the way that it's shaped. Does the 83 750K take a special lever or could a previous owner have swapped out the clutch lever perch?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Mike

For parts that will fit, start a conversation with Chacal.

It is possible that a PO could have swapped out the left side switchgear (the clutch lever perch is integral to the switchgear) to that of another bike.
You have enough posts now that you can link pictures. Give us a look at the levers and the controls.

Will do ordering from Chacal. The place I bought from will take returns but it's hardly worth it paying return shipping.

Here's a picture of the new one that does not fit. I'll pull the old back off this weekend to get a picture of it if need be.

That looks just like the one on my shelf of misfit parts. I bought it before I found this site.

Thanks. I'll get with Chacal and see what he can do.

Thanks to all who have replied.

I'm putting my XJ project on hold. I'm not 100% sure (but about 95%) sure the head gasket is leaking oil too. I cleaned it, ran it and it appears to be coming from the mating surface where the head seats on the motor between the left-most two cylinders. Between that, a valve cover gasket and needing front brake hoses it's going to be more than I can spend on it until maybe over the winter (unless someone on here might want to buy the bike).

90% of the time that is coming from the valve cover gasket and running down into that split.

Do you mean running down the back side of the front of the valve cover?

Yes, or from some other less-visible place. Oil leaking from there will run into the water drain passages and down to the head gasket split. It can evern creep around to the front from a leaky cam chain tensioner gasket.

Thanks. The new owner will dig into it in the future I suppose, sold it today. I'll buy another bike when there's more money to spend on one. Divorce still in progress after two years so things will get better when that's done.

Thanks to you and all who've helped on here, you're a great bunch!
