85 xj700 wiring problem

    So I'm replacing the wiring harness that came with the bike the guy before me hacked it up. I do not have the brown connector on the speedometer that comes from the temp gague on the harness

    Were you careful to get the wiring harness for an XJ700XN, and not an XJ700N?
    There are two XJ700 models. One watercooled (like yours) and one aircooled.

    Then it may be the wrong harness. Can you call the PO and ask?

    I called the guy I bought it from he said that was the harness that he got when he bought it from a guy

    Oh good. Well unless there are obviously clipped wires I'll go ahead and say that it's not the correct harness.
    This diagram should help you figure out what you have (wire colors are the same as in the actual harness).
