    Hi all,

I have an 82 Maxim XJ750 and i bought it with forward controls on it, I am wanting to go back to standard type foot controls and i'm having trouble figuring out how exactly the originals were mounted.. it looks as though the foot rests had to have some kind of rised angled mount that actually came off the frame and then the peg bolted to.. and as for my shift lever.. the way it is now with forward controls, the "peg" sticking out of the tranny rotates (staring at it from left side) right for first and then left for each progressing gear.. so as most "standard" peg/shift lever setups i've seen were the shift peg usually goes from mount close to peg, then forward out to toe, this one would seem that if i wanted to keep the 1 dwn 4 up fasion i would have to mount my shift peg from mount toward toe with the mount being the furthest from me heel.. if this is not making sense :

what mostly i see ex: (toe)--------(shift peg mount) (foot peg)

on mine it seems to keep the 1 dwn 4 up it would have to be:

    (shift peg mount)-----------(toe) (footpeg)

if the makes it more clear..

which if i have to do it that way is find.. i already have a shift peg that i can use (just needs to be shortened because of the close proximity of shift peg mount and foot peg mount)

And were there offset for the original footpegs that mounted to the cupped framed mounts?

Any pics of original setup on an 82 XJ750 Maxim would be greatly appreciated.. thanks

Do you have the original Pegs? The Maxim has adjustable pegs and a rather elaborate linkage system to allow for adjustment of the shifter and the brake. A straight shift lever will have to be awfully short to work. I broke my brake linkage trying to make an adjustment. 25 years of rust and neglect combined with a knuckle head (me) with a big wrench spelled shearing the thing in two. I took it to a welding shop and the tig welded it back together and while I think it was strong enough, I wanted to adjust it, so I bought one on ebay. You might want to check ebay and get the originals if you can find them. Mine was less than $20 including shipping.

The pictured mounts are the same as mine on the 83 Mid-Max. The mount bolts to a semi-captive nut and allows the Peg and Pedal to be moved forward or back ... according to your individual comfort factor.

The "Turn-buckle" type adjustment is the compensation for the adjustment ... and, once the Foot Rest and Pedal are secured in the comfort position ... the "Turn-buckle" doubles as the Pedal Height Adjustment.

A turn Clockwise or counter-clockwise will raise or lower the Pedal Height to a spot where your foot contacts it without ankle movement.
