What are my options for a replacement upper triple tree for an 81 maxim? I'm switching over to clipons and I've come across a problem where the risers are molded into the upper triple tree. It seems that secas, or maybe 650s (not quiet sure) have a MUCH lower riser, which I could probably deal with more so than the 2-3 inch rise on the maxim tree.

Has anyone swapped over to a different upper while maintaining the lower and yoke? I strictly only care about the forks lining up and the stem yoke. Gauge and ignition mounting or any non-essentials will be addressed at a different time. Meaning if theirs a smoother-topped alternative from another style bike with 36mm bore I would be happy as well.

Also, the more i search i'm finding that the upper of a seca won't fit a lower of a maxim. Yet, the searches are archived and I haven't seen if anyone has put a seca triple tree on with maxim forks. As in, no one, to my knowledge, has confirmed the rake/trail is do-able by doing this swap. So if anyone has done a swap, I'd love to hear about it or be pointed in the right direction.

That's a beauty! Does it fit the XJ550 Maxim? Would you or could you make another to ship to the Northeast United States?

that's a slick way to clamp the fork tubes in, how will you get them back out? or is that the bottom of the triple?

I'd be under the impression set screws of some sort would be used to retain the pressure, since the bottom triple clamps, the set screws would retain the pressure to keep them set on the top.

Also.. still looking if a seca 550 entire triple tree could be used in place. If it will fit the bearings and so forth in the neck.

its a locking taper. Bolts will keep suck in the sleeves to lock everything together. To release I made a sleeve to knock out tapered sleeves from the top. Never seen someone do it this way, looks cleaner without the pinch bolts

Well, to get back on topic, it seems the Seca forks are 35mm opposed to the 36mm forks on a maxim.. yet, it appears a 650 maxim has a similar set up to the seca, but is 36mm forks. So, a revised question would be will a 650 triple tree fit the bearings of a 550 neck.
