I just put some straight bars on my XJ700 Maxim and when turning the bars will hit the tank so i'm wondering what all types of tanks will fit these bikes cause i'm looking for one that is narrower than the original but just as long so it goes down to the seat. If anyone knows please let me know so I can continue working on my bike. I will post pics when it is all finished.

If you want to change the tank for other cosmetic reasons, you totally could, but an easier solution would be to add risers or modify the stops on your bars so they don't hit your tank.

what exactly do you mean by modifying the stops? I'm new at this so I may sound alittle inexperienced. I like the way the bars sit right now so i don't really want to add risers but if i have to to keep the tank from getting dinged up then i have to i guess.

There are stops on the forks that keep the bars from going too far (so that even with your stock handlebars they don't hit the tank). Modifying those so that the forks can't turn as much will shorten your potentially tightest turning radius, but it'll keep you from smashing your tank or having to modify the tank itself.

On my bike the "stop" are two tabs cast into the top surface of the lower triple tree clamp. There is a tab protruding from the frame (the lower part of the head tube, actually) that the two tabs on the tree bum into to limit travel. Not "adjustable" per se.

Thanks Blackdiscoball, it doesn't seem like there is an alternative.

Not adjustable unless you have a wielder, or know someone who has ;)

I welded a nut on either side of the stop and they do the job. I also have XS trees on mine which provide an extra 1" or so of rise in the bars. Of course this dosent matter now, I'm using clip ons, but before with the inverted euro bars it gave enough height to clear the tank.
