    Hello all,

My bike came with a non-vacuum replacement petcock.

I'm going to remove it prior to repainting the tank - any comments on leaving the non-standard petcock or go back to the original vacuum style?

Any recommendations on a new non-vacuum or just consider the correct XJ4Ever vacuum one?

As long as you can remember to always turn the manual (non-vacuum) fuel valve on and off at the appropriate times, then it works just fine. The original automatic fuel valve (vac-operated) offers the utmost in convenience.

Vacuum petcocks help protect your lower engine/oil supply from leaking carb float valves. As Chacal indicated, if you turn it off each ride, ok. But if something leaks somewhere and you didn't turn it off, you may be changing your oil, cleaning up gas from the garage floor, etc.

For me, vacuum operated...because I know the time I forget will be the time a 35 year old bike has something else in the fuel delivery system fail...

I get the message loud and clear - will take the original petcock from the saddle bag and see how serviceable it is, rebuilt it as needed.

Now I just have to figure out what hoses went where, should not be a problem.

When you order the new vacuum petcock from XJ4Ever, Len (Chacal) will be able to tell you which is which :).

IMHO, buying elsewhere should not be considered an option, too many wrong parts get purchased that way....!

I have a petcock, Yamaha, part number 3AL-24500-00-00, NIB supplied by the previous owner with some other small parts.
No good or seek an alternative?

I saw the rebuilding doc, awesome - the rear brake one is great too, I just keep looking for more of them!
