New speed bump in build. Rear brake shaft. 81 seca

    Need to get this in there. But it hits the swingarm and/or frame. Anybody else have this issue? I hope I don't need to take the swingarm off...help!

    That didn't work. Swingarm brake hold bracket is in the way.

    Is there a spring I need to put in first? If so, it may be missing...

    Well, no removing swingarm again. I took the rear springs off, lowered it. Wouldn't clear by 1/8" so I slightly bent the spring tab. Cleared. So I'm gonna grease it up and go from there. Gotta improvise sometimes lol. Thanks! Still wondering about the spring but I don't think this one has the return spring on the shaft.

    I didn't read far enough down the thread before replying.

    There is a return spring, and you had better get one and install it. It's more than a little important.

    Chacal probably has one in stock, and will get it to you weks faster than any dealer.

    Definitely need the spring.......also, I hope you greased the pivot shaft before installing.

    Yes I greased it. The brake springing back very well without that spring. But. Since the spring is missing I'll be robbing the one off of my xj650 Maxim. Just been focusing on the electrical today. I'll be up until I get the carbs installed and cables routed properly. Tomorrow, front brake pads will be delivered and hopefully installed by noon. Anyone have a pic of where the stand sensors mount? Thanks!

    The sidstand switch bolts right up to the sidestand mount. There are two holes just forward of the sidestand pivot.

    The only reason your brake pedal is returning, currently, is because of the two little spring connecting the brake shoes. You really need to install the pedal return spring.

    Correct. Just want you guys to know...you're d*cks. 100% joking of course. On a serious note. I just dismantled my 81 650 Maxim to get that torsion spring. Come to find out...the diagram is wrong. I go to put the spring in and low and behold there is no possible way this spring is going in there. The bracket is a little different and there is nowhere for the straight end of the spring to grab on to. I was puzzled, frustrated and confused. Well...I then remembered I had a small spring that was an unknown. Well.. It's not unknown anymore.

    Except the spring that Alacroix showed you IS the right spring, and the diagram IS the right spring. The spring you put on looks like a center stand spring. It is NOT the correct spring. The long skinny spring is just for the brake switch.
