fairing swap

    I was given the fairing /windshield and all brackets from an 1983 xj750 was wondering if could mount on my 1981 xj750r know you can make anything work if you throw enough money and time at it am able to do fab work just wondering if frame close to same or was there a major design change

    I'm unsure of what you have.
    Is it correct that you have a fairing for an XJ750 Maxim, and want to put it on an XJ750 Seca?

    sorry the 1983 fairing off an xj750f was wondering if much difference or can put on my 1981 xj750r with some modifications to brackets

    No major changes were made to the 750 Seca until '84. The fairing will fit on your bike (unless there are some mounting boss changes that I'm not aware of).
    Buy that friend of yours a good bottle of scotch.

    Do you have the frame mounted fairing, or the sport fairing?

    the brackets mounted to frame in 3 spots one under ignition switch and 1 on each side or frame ,it is red and white the windshield discoloured but no cracks

    Then you have the fairing from the touring package. Yamaha sold that with a steering damper. I suggest that you plan on fitting one just in case.

    Some came with the steering damper, others came without.

    The mounting points on both frames are the same, so you can swap it over, regardless. I even have a pic of a 750 Seca with an x1 fairing on it......
