    Hello all,

Final drive to shaft tunnel had signs of oil leakage, took off the final drive and confirmed there was oil where the shaft/splines go into the drive (circled in red on the fiche).

Took off the top boot (top of the drive shaft tunnel in the swing arm) & can see there is no oil at the top seal at the back of the engine/drive shaft so it isn't leaking down the shaft into the pumpkin. The top boot does have oil on the bottom of it, looks to be oil running down into the boot and not oil coming out of the rear of the engine

Any ideas appreciated - do want to know if this is normal or abnormal, any recommendations, if this is something I could tackle on my own and which items should be replaced? In the bottom picture o-rings (13, 22) are blue, oil seals (6, 14, 26, 32) are red and gaskets (28) are green. Paint by numbers...

    Thanks!

i see three of those units on ebay. that's not a very common problem. so if you compare prices, ask yourself if you want to get into replacing individual parts.
i've never been in there but i think if the ring gear comes out it gets complicated. the drive shaft side might not be too bad.

What may be happening is the seal at the end of the drive shaft where it goes into the pumpkin may be bad.
Now the only problem is getting the U joint off, can't find torque specs for it in the 3 manuals I have, and according to Yamaha I should be able to get the drive shaft out of the tunnel with drive shaft puller "90890-04012-00" which I can't find anywhere.
    Ugh.

Wrap a cotton cord around it and pull.
