Looks like your first linked to bike has been sold.

    MotoMark (and Gamuru),

I just purchased the '86 700X in that first link. Bike has been in storage for nearly three years and is in nearly perfect condition except for a ding on the right side of the tank. The dent is not very deep and there is no crease in the metal. Can you recommend a paintless dent removal service in the metro DC area?

Also, once I get her home I plan to wrench on her myself. Could use and would greatly appreciate some guidance on where to start. Haven't ridden in 18 years and am eager to get back in the saddle. Am mechanically inclined but have never performed any serious motorcycle maintenance.

Oh, and before I purchased this bike I nearly had consummated a deal for the other "X" in the third link. But, I agree that it did not look like a real "X" and the seller could not provide any additional pictures for verification.

the 3rd one is the air cooled xj700 you are correct it is not an X. Look at the 2nd picture and you will notice the temp gage is not in the center of the tach and spedo.

Well hooray for the forum and hooray for you. I thought that X looked like a very good deal just from the pics and price.
I am not very experienced with working on motorcycles myself as I was off for even longer than you. Asking your questions to this forum is the best way to get knowledgeable and reliable info. They have helped me several times.
Don't know whereabouts you are but a couple of independent shops in Fairfax Cty are Fairfax Cycles and Fast Lane Cycles. They'll both work on old bikes but Fast Lane keeps suggesting buying a newer bike in my conversations with them. Also theres a couple solo operation guys who put up notices on CL.

Don't know if this is same guy:

Best of luck with your new XJ.

Thanks for the 411 MotoMark! I'm presently in Montgomery Village, MD... do you have any recommendations for indy shops in this neck of the woods? Seems like the solo ops guys on CL keep getting flagged!
