Ammo can saddle bag(?)

I have seen on occasion that people are using 20 mm ammo cans as saddle bags.
If any of you have done this could you explain how you've attached them?I have a few vague ideas but was wondering if someone has a fairly simple way of doing it.

What works for me is mounting anything to the strongest and closest part of your bike. Bracket or gussets can be made to strengthen longer supports. You also have to try and get a mental picture of where you want them. Hope this helps.

Well I set to work this week to figure out how to mount these cans. The ones I have are quite a bit larger than the ones link in the previous post. I think I have a good idea of how its going to work. Lately I have been using a lot of U-bolts to attach my vetter fairing as well as the highway bars I built. I find putting things together this way makes it easier to remove and rethink and adjust. Then I ride it for a while and if all is well I put the welder to work, not the frame, but the other bits and peices. I think I will attach them to the luggage rack using U-bolts and then put a gussett on to keep them away from the shock and tire. I'll put up some pictures when I get started this week.

Great Buffalo could you keep and post that list of parts and directions when you get it figures out. Go bigger than than the 20mm cans.

 

I'm liking this idea..... gonna check out the surplus shops and see what I can dig up....
