Well, YEAH--- doesn't everybody know that the way to remove the floats is simply to BREAK everything? Amazing how some people can be so ham-fisted, then try and sell things as:

"umm, i 'cleaned' it.... yeah- that's the ticket! I 'cleaned' it. Got those pesky towers out of the way, while I was at it........."

(say that all in your best smarmy John Lovett Pathological Liar voice.........)

    Lol

Now, seriously--- any '80-'83 xj650/750 carb bodies will work, just make sure to use the right jets, and the correct mixture screw threads.

To be picky on detail-- the 1980 carb bodies were slightly different: each body only has one bolt for the upper rail and for the lower rail. The other hole in the rails for each body and it does not get a bolt....there is a indexing boss cast on the bodies that fits into those holes.

    Here's a detail pic-

If I'm not mistaken, I believe you might be able to repair the broken float stand. If your talking about where the pin holds the float. If there not to messed up.... I no there was a how to thread on the topic. Google is your friend followed by XJBikes.com.

There are lots of ways people have repaired them....

-some have tried epoxy, jbweld, etc... with mixed results

Some have milled and dovetailed new blocks in place. Personally, I think those work but look hideous.

I will NOT send carbs back out with compromised towers. When I find a repair that is as strong as original AND is virtually invisible ( looks original ) then I might be ok with it. Til then, not......

Two of my carbs had broken pillars that were JB welded by one of the previous owners. When I opened them up both repairs had failed. Here's how I fixed them. This was meant to be a temporary fix until I found a deal on a couple new bodies but it's held up perfectly for over 8 months. The nail is aluminum.
