82 xj650 carb sync

    hey guys i have a 1982 yamaha maxim xj650 with hitachi hsc32 carbs and during vacuum sync the #3 carb has no changes and no vacuum at idle if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great, i have the vacuume line from the tank plugged while doing so

    If your using the 4 vacuum gauge set up ( my prference) adjust the idle knob up... if rpm raises to say 500hg if others are at 1000 turn out #1 and #4 see if you can get them even . You may have to play with the idle knob to get an even reading on other cylinders.

    it seems like #3 isnt getting a vacuume or the jets under the diaphram could be mixed up ( same thread) so im sure it possible to mix up, ones a 50 and ones a 205 do you know which ones go in which spot ?

    do you have an idea of what the air mixture screws should be set at? some places im seeing 1 1/2 other places say 2 1/2 .. i have them at 2 , 2 1/2 right now and its running rich as a bastard right now.. 82 xj650 hsc32 carbs

    Some carbs use course thread mix screw so 1 1/2 base setting
    Other ones fine thread so 2 1/2 base setting

    No, that is a "threaded hole" for a "cover" piece. My carbs have the "cover" some do not. The understanding is that the cover is NOT mandatory.

    Hopefully a wizard can affirm my understanding of the cover.

    the hole is there for a screw that holds a cover that was used . it is not needed .
    also my understanding that yamaha stopped using cover the in the 650 carbs

    so from that picture i guess i had all those jet backwards, so i switched them so what the picture says , then it didnt start, or even try to start after bench sync , so i swapped them back now its not even sucking fuel in.. think i need to re bench sync
