How many miles do you expect from a tank of gas?

I think there have been a few scattered discussions on this topic in other threads but I did not see any threads specific to the topic.

I just picked up my XJ700N this last weekend from @Toomanybikes who was kind enough to clean and rebuild my carbs (you may have seen some of the pictures posted) as well as reinstall the original airbox and 4 into 2 exhaust.

Before the work was done I was running the POs pods and MAC 4 into 1. With that configuration I would get around 90 km (56 mi) on a full tank before I had to switch to reserve. I average about 10.5 liters for a fill up which translates to 8.5 km\l (20 mi\gal)

I am on my first full tank of gas after having the carb work and the airbox and exhaust restored. I just rolled past 130 km (80 mi) which is a 45% improvement so far.

I read that the xj700n was supposed to get 19.9 km\l (46.86 mi\gal) from the factory. I assume that this would be under ideal driving conditions. I like to drive with the throttle wide open whenever I can so I am not expecting to make it anywhere close to the 200 km potential.

I am interested to know what other XJ owners are getting out of a tank of gas.

I get around 40 - 42 mpg (just over 17 Km per liter) on my 750, depending on how I ride. Sometimes I just have to feel it race, other times I keep myself in check.

    700 n manual says
upload_2017-5-17_16-47-10.png so you should see over 157 miles to reserve

or 258 km to reserve the stated spec of 19.9 km\l (46.86 mi\gal) from the factory.

    59.6 km on reserve.

My XJ700N is bone stock and runs perfectly and has approximately 16,000 miles on it--unless the speedometer has been changed. The plugs are a light tan indicating a good carb adjustment. I never open the throttle to WOT an rarely exceed 70 mph, nor am I in a hurry around town. In other words, I'm a conservative rider and I average about 40 mpg overall. I think my best has been about 43 mpg. New the 700's were advertised to get around 46 mpg, but I suspect all of these old engines have lost a little compression and that may account for some of the reduction in mpg. And also, the ethonol gas we have now is not as good as the old gas. I've come to the conclusion that I'm getting about all I can get out of mine. I usually hit reserve around 100 miles if I'm on the road, and earlier if mostly in town. I think if I took it easy on the road I would start walking around 145 miles. All in town probably around 135. I usually fill up before 100 miles just to be super safe.

I'm with Jet and Lights . . . . 40 ish mpg. Generally hit reserve around 100 miles.
I know reserve is there for a reason but I usually fill up around 80 miles.

Keep in mind that the EPA fuel mileage figures listed by Yamaha were the result of testing under traffic and speed conditions that no longer exist.
If I keep my 750 under 55 MPH, and accelerate conservatively, I can return better than the quoted mileage figures for her (so long as the wind isn't blowing).

I use my trip meter and when it hits around 90 miles I put alittle over 2 gal in her, just like clockwork, been doing that for 5+ years now, have never run out.
