    Hi!

Long story short, my 80XJ650 is ready to hit the road and I have had an issue of one cylinder that was running quite rich. I found that 3 cylinders had the stock Y-12 needles, and the one running rich has a substantially fatter and a little shorter needle.....the number is rubbed off so unsure of size, but my eye noticed the physical size difference.

I'm hoping someone has a single Y-12 needle lying around. They are discontinued through Chacal.
Conversely, I would be willing to purchase four of a different size that would be close to stock.......bike is unmodified at all, stock airbox/exhaust etc.

Paypal waiting as I'm supposed to be taking it on a road trip in 2 weeks!

    I know, I'm in Canada.

I'm trying for the single "proper" one first as I only need one, then I'll look into the 10 or 11.......I'm leaning towards Y-11

If you go with y-10, your gonna set it up like an American rack... lol

I'll look...., I know I have some, but I don't want to break a set, so I'll see what I have

Sounds good. Would have been nice if it was standardized in North America, but what can you do.

    What can you do?

Hmmmm. Switch parts to the Canadian jets, etc.... for a bit more performance, screw EPA regulations? Lol

Ok what gives? I have just opened up 2 sets of 750 carbs and 2 sets of 650 carbs ( 1 maxim and 1 seca) and they all have Y-14 needles
Is it possible that only the 1980 xj650 has the Y-12 needle?
But remember Yamahapartsnation is US based part numbers
2 sets of Canadian 750 carbs have Y-14 needles and 120 main and 43 pilot jets.
    As per yamahapartsnation,
All US xj650's have Y-10 needles and 750's have Y-13's
So even if you phone your local Canadian dealer they use a US based parts system.
Only the original Canadian microfiche will give you correct numbers.
I will have my xj650rjc carbs apart next week to confirm this( carbs have never been tuned for 4-1 etc) and my Xj750rl apart the week after. Throttle shaft seal time and vapour blast to make new again.

If you have 12's in it the 10 may lean out that cylinder a bit

All of mine normally have y-10. I have a couple canadin rcks, and those do have the y-12. I'm not parting them as they are complete for some projects. I have a couple 13's have seen 11's, but never 14's.

It's quite possible my oddball is a y-10. it is thicker than the y-12 's. The problem has been sorted and the bike runs beautifully in all ranges finally! Needle wasn't the issue. I'm going to drive it as is for now, but for anyone that reads this, I still will grab a single Y-12 if any fellow canucks have one.

Time to slap some plates on her in the next couple days and enjoy it after the last month/$800 worth of parts rebuilding.

Thanks to everyone for taking a look!

I had a typically loose emulsion tube and I wasn't happy with how tight the main was when I cleaned the carbs out. I went back in there to tighten it up as it was nagging at me. Used a couple little tricks on the emulsion tube to hold it. I also flattened and sanded both sides of the sealing copper washer smooth.

The symptom was I was fouling #4 spark plug under wide open throttle, fine the rest of the time. I SUSPECT with the rough surface of the washer and the lack of tightness, it was pulling extra fuel around the main jet (stock 110). Plug chop now shows a nice light tan that matches the other 3 cylinders. Bike runs great now!
