washed my bike and....

    As you guy's can guess it doesn't start anymore !

    Edit : 1983 XJ650

    I have a spark issue , no spark on any cylinder.

    Yes , yes yes , i know there is probably a thousand discussions like this one , but if you can answer faster than i can find the solution i'll be very happy it's 28+ degree outside , the bike is clean but doesn't run :(

    If someone can get me a list of stuff to check in order before buying new coils.... hehe

    I guess I'd start at the fusebox. Is it original, or upgrade, and is there power for ignition? You can pull the TCI plugs and start checking power there.

    I've got to say , the electrical system on this bike is a real nightmare , the frames is cut , the PO pretty much tucked all the wiring where he could.

    I'd start with a can of WD-40, and get all of the electrical plugs dried out (that's the one job WD-40 is actually meant to do).
    My main thought is that the ignition coils, and/or plug wires, are cracked. That will allow water to act as the lowest-resistance path to ground, and any spark will jump to the frame or the outside of the engine, bypassing the spark plugs entirely.

    I wash mine with a bucket of soapy water and sponge rinse with as little water as possible. Wipe down with a clean towel or leather shammy.

    Periodically I will spray underparts with foaming degreaser and a rinse to remove road oil, but keep water away from upper/electrical areas.

    I wet half a towel and wiped down various bits of the bike, then dried w/ the other end of the towel. I was surprised just how shiny some bits were! Who knew!?

    I ride through a thunderstorm at least once a year. whether the bike is dirty or not.

    Only wash from the bottom of the seat down with pressure water/soap. top of bike only get spray bottle wash or damp rag.

    bubbles and more bubbles, i wash it with Dawn dish soap and a rag where i can reach, and a toilet swab where i can't. then hose it down real good and use my ancient sears leaf blower to dry it. then auto detailer on the shiney stuff and another toilet swab with detailer for the shiney stuff i can't reach.
    toilet swabs are really for bikes but there's more toilets than bikes.

    I am amazed how Dawn dishsoap cleans grease off my hands better than other soap. I will give it a try on my cycle.

    Keep it away from the paint. It strips the oils out of that too.

    night mare is an understatement, get some wire ties and start bundling a few of those wires.
    lay that brown wire to the harness, along with the black wire unwrap them from each other.
    longer battery +wire to solenoid and try to mount it somewhere.
    remove neg cable then bend the neg wire connector so it comes down under the bolt over the battery putting the wire at the - sign on the battery.

    what does that fues send power to? is there a switch on it upstream some place?

    just because the PO left it that way does not mean you should leave it like that.

    Sorry for the late answer , i left the bike in my garage the whole day and it fired back up the day after as if nothing ever happened.

    First bike i own that doesn't like a good cleaning , i ran it twice soo far in heavy rain without any problems tho.

    I totally agree , but i wanted to do this during next winter , summer is soo short around here , i wanna enjoy the bike as much as i can , altho i can't enjoy a bike that doesn't run ! haha
