Hello all. Question for the know. My air cleaner case has 2 hoses aside the carb hoses. 1 in front

One on bottom left. We're in the heck does the bottom hose go? I know the other hose is for ventilation system. But the other one has nothing about it in Manuel? Please help

It's not the hose with the union. It's the other one at bottom of housing. Haynes doesn't mention were it goes but they show the hose

for drainage to street, any buildup of liquid ( whatever, oil, gas or water inside the airbox ) .......will drain to bottom underneath bike....

 

Thank you for that answer. However the question still remains-why does the parts image show pinch clamps for both ends of the hose? Surely you wouldn't need that sort of clamp for the other end. Right?

The bigger of the two goes to the crankcase breather. The smaller one just hangs down.
The parts diagram only shows one clamp. The airbox drain hose is shown with a jagged cut, indicating that it is longer than the diagram can show.

 

Thanks, I see that diagram you saw. It shows one clamp. Haynes page 132 shows 2 clamps. Each have a part #. 8 and 12. Who's right?

All of the service manuals have documented errors. That is one of them.

 

There isn't one. Where are you seeing that?

If you are referring to the airbox drain, it's because the oil mist and cold-startup condensation from the crankcase need to have a place to go to other than into the carbs. Airbox drains are very, very common. Your car even has one.

 

Thanks man. I suppose the Manuel could be in error. And again were not talking about the hose that that connects just below the line of the intake adapters. THE OTHER ONE AT BOTTOM OF CASING.so you say this is a drain . Stub , hose ,clamp open drain. But wouldn't this drain suck in air? The answer is yes. Was that design taken in consideration for air jetting and performance?

 

Yes, they were very thinky when they designed these bikes.

My apologies for being busy taking care of household chores.

Air does not get sucked into the airbox drain. I just confirmed this by starting my motorcycle and placing a bit of tissue below the drain hole. There is no airflow into the drain at any engine speed.

If you have concerns, feel free to add a filter at the end of the drain hose. You may need to periodically remove said filter to allow the airbox to drain as intended.

Your impatience and rudeness is becoming tiresome. Please tone it down.
