I'm trying to find-out what would be the best solution for those who need Front Forks Re-Chromed.

    Did you?
    Where?
    How much?
    Are you pleased?

    Do you need them done?
What are you willing to spend?

No but the last time I had to rebuild them I sanded the crud off the aluminum lower pieces and polished them up on a buffer until they had a mirror finish.

I need to redo my inner fork tubes, they won't stop leaking and last time I took them apart I looked closer at the tubes and see that they are scored.

My local Yamaha shop says a hydraulic cylinder repair shop can re-chrome them for a couple of hundred?? I personally haven't checked with anyone yet.

I did find one NOS inner tube on ebay a while back so I need one more NOS or a re-chrome job!

So I will be watching this post!

I will still highly recommend Forking By Frank. Built to OEM specs, delivered to your door at half the dealership price. He'll build them longer or shorter to your tasts if you like. New tubes for our XJs run about $250. Thats one OEM, if you are lucky. My brother's XVZ ran me almost $300 a pop.
I would avoid having old tubes chromed unless there is no other option. Chrome and hardening aren't cheap and the job must be done very carefully.

Thought mine needed rechroming, then last night I put the 1500 gritt sandpaper on them and all that dull junk came off, still needs a few more hours, but they look a helluva lot better.

Frank makes new tubes. Odd to hear Frank is more expensive, this hasn't been my experience to date (only ordered once, quoted three jobs). I don't know how deep the chrome hardening is so there is really not a whole lot to loose if you polish blemishes out (corrosion pits are another story).

I just realized how lucky I am with mine, I was thinking the aluminum part with a big Huh?!, then realized that mine are still in very good shape. Not tryin to rub it in, still have plenty to do with the rest of the bike....

My forks are fine, but how much are the headers gonna cost me? got the right side after the headers SOL too, the chrome part broke off, just showing a rusty exhaust pipe ha ha ha!

Re-chrome for those or just find decent used or new ones?
