there are 2 types of switches 3 wire and 5 wire (atari style) 3 wire has a shorter bottom 5 wire has longer bottom mount but the black lock towers are the same so you can swap them if needed.

all the xjs that have 3 wires will interchange and you can always swap the lock cylinders if needed.

    read this how to
Clean and lube the ignition switch

So dumb question. Are the rear bulbs on a seca supposed to be dual filament?

The rear brake/running lights bulbs should be dual-filament (1157 style); the rear turn signals are single-filament (1156).

    Now for the serious questions:
Is the bike in your avatar your 750? Where did the headlight and gauges come from? A 650? I like it!

Thank you. It is my bike. The headlight was just something a buddy had laying around. Off a cb750 i think. Thats an old pic though. I wrecked it on railroad tracks so it looks a little different. Its now ice white with a ton of metallic flake.

I figured it out lol. But i think the drive gear is shot. I can spin the cable on the speedometer side with it full seated

I had a Yamaha RS100 with a hub driven speedo gear that, upon review of the parts fiche was missing a single washer on the axle assembly that kept the gear engaged with the cable. This washer, I'm sure son PO lost it when changing a flat and never thought it was a big deal.

There are ears on the speedo drive that have to slot into the wheel hub. If misaligned, the ears get bent and the speedometer drive no worky. The other possibility is that the cable is broken. It can be removed from the sleeve, checked, cleaned, and re-greased. Do that before pulling the wheel to check the speedometer drive.
Speedometer drives are stout internally, but parts are still available if something has broken.

There's a clutch washer that should be in between the wheel and the speedo drive. It's got two little metal tabs that stick out and engage the wheel and the speedo drive - one of the tabs on mine had broken off, causing the problem you describe. It's easy for this to happen if you take the wheel off (for example to change the tire) and don't take care to get the tab into it's slot when putting the speedo drive back onto the rim. Really, REALLY easy mistake to make, and that tab just breaks off or folds flat when you put things back together.

The upside is, Chacal has them for pocket change, so replacing that clutch washer is trivial.

Well. I see k-moe already answered. That'll teach me to answer a day old thread before scrolling down a teensie bit. Ah well =)

    Is the battery charged?
Will the solenoid click of you apply 12V directly to the control side (small wires)?

Battery is charged. I will jumper the wires when i get home. It will start if i use a screwdriver to cross the posts.

OK. So it's either the solenoid, or something upstream of the solenoid. Let us know if she spins the starter by jumpering the coltrol side of the solenoid.
Have you used the kickstand lately?
