I'm in the Boston area and enjoy learning to repair my xj650. Any other yamaha tinkerers out there?

It would be nice to chat with someone in the area who loves their old yamaha like me. Yesterday I had the front caliper off and did a nice cleanup of the piston and seal area. Brake works like a charm now and doesn't drag hard when cold.

You have found a treasure trove of tinkerers here. Feel free to ask questions and contribute to the conversations. There are some great folks here that are willing to share what they have learned about not only XJs but other bikes as well.

    ^^^ what they said!
We have tinkerers, professional restorationers, electrical guru's, oil specialist, several Wizards and a few hacks.
All of them have love for their XJ's and freely share their knowledge. Welcome to the camp.

Great to hear back from you all. I'll post a few pics soon. The carbs seem to be pretty clean judging by the overall performance but learning how to rebuild them is definitely my next goal. It's great to be in contact with other old yamaha enthusiast here. It would be especially great to be able to help someone else in this area too on theirs. I was a junior in high school when my 83 xj650 first came out. I've had it about a month now and it's been a lot of fun. When I was around 12 yrs old I used to ride around on my little Honda ct70 minibike. Now decades later, my second motorcycle is the xj650. Quite a jump in power

I ride mine through the woods once in awhile. All those little rocks and downed saplings tinkers the hell out of it.
