I've got a set of hard cases for my 82 seca. I am looking to find the mounting hardware kit to properly fix them to my bike. Any information on where I can get this hardware is appreciated. Thank you

Pic is of my bike. Hard cases are OEM style

If all you need is the hardware, than any decent hardware store will have what you need. If you also need the brackets, then you'll have to see if anyone here as any for sale, or hit Ebay.

Barring a member having a set; Ebay Germany will be the best bet for brackets. I haven't seen a complete set listed Canada or the U.S. in two years. There is a center portion listed though; just the upper plastic piece.

    You'll need
    -pair of Side mounts
    -pair of supports
    -The trunk support
    - turn signal mount (unobtainium)
-The correct hardware includes special-shaped Allen-drive metric bolts that fit in the recesses, etc......

So, you have a whole bunch of stuff to find.

What do you mean by OEM 'style' ? As far as I know, you're gonna have either OEM equipment, or some other aftermarket stuff. No one else made repros of the OEM ones that I know of, so if you have original stuff it's OEM. Not, OEM 'style'.

Here is a list and diagram of the parts to install the hard cases. The hard cases and trunk mount onto the Luggage Carrier Assembly. The luggage carrier stays and the turn signal bracket may be the more difficult to find, as the cases, luggage carrier and trunk were removed from the bike; the stays and turn signal brackets stayed mounted to bike.

Most of the metric bolts, nuts and washers can be found at a well stocked hardware store or home center. The Flat Head Allen bolts are a little more difficult but I found some at McMaster-Carr.

Yes. They're oem side cases. No trunk. I do have the turn signal bracket. It came with the purchase. I did have front fairing but it was very bad so it was 86'd.

The side cases had just random bolts and straps and even wood inside of them that you could tell was "mounting hardware" from the p.o.. and then I was given a box of miscellaneous which held the turn signals and bracket

It was a very neglected bike

Was there a a rubber gasket holding the headlight lens in place? How was its condition? I have been looking for the rubber gasket. I have the lens, but the gasket that folds over the lens was crumbling in places and I don't trust it to hold the lens in place. Already checked with Chacal. I don't think "extra" parts for these fairings / touring pacakage were made readily available.

I agree. I'll bet he does have many of them., just not the rubber headlight fairing lens gasket. I will be going to him for a few pieces to enhance my fairing (and other parts as well) when I get to that point.

I may have the rubber gasket possibly from another bike I just started disassembly on this morning. Xj750 1982 ?maxim? The bushing and rubber seems to be in great shape

does chacal sell these items? I wouldn't want to message him and be an irritation.

I may have mistaken the part you're referencing. I'll look at the housing as I know I kept the light when I 86'd the fairing.

Enjoying this thread and thanks again everyone for all the information

Never a bother. Chacal is extremely helpful and knowledgeable about these bikes and the parts for them. Click on the XJ4EVER icon at the top-right corner of this forum.

The gasket I am referring to holds the lens into the fairing. The actual headlight is mounted in a housing behind that. Maybe you have (had) the sport fairing?

I have outlined the gasket I am referring to. It only holds the squarish, curved, glass lens into the fairing.

It was the same style fairing, but at least I now know what was missing on that as well. Sorry, I do not have that I'm positive

    Correct....

    Now, to add to that---

The gasket for the full fairing is a harder rubber/plastic piece that is held in place by several allen-drive cap-screws that have very small heads.....probably around a 3.5mm or so drive.

The gasket for the sport fairing gets a little more interesting-- THESE gaskets were a softer flexible gasket that is held in place by several nipples on the back that go through the fairing and hold it in place as the nipples are tapered. There are two different types:

    1. A plain gasket with no glass. The front is open to the headlight.
    2. A slotted gasket that slips around the glass so that the glass is seated in a slot similar to some older car windshields, in effect the glass lens floats. The headlight is protected by this front glass.

I have had both for the sport fairing, and have the regular type for the standard fairing, as well.

Hmm, I don't see any Allen type screws, or screw holes or threads, just rivet looking pieces that protrude through the gasket from inside the fairing. I am pretty sure that I have #2. The glass lens was sandwiched between the slotted rubber gasket and a thin strip of foam weatherstripping like material.

I have considered using an adhesive backed rubber sheet cut in the same shape of the lens using the current gasket as a template and placing this over the glass to hold in place. I have also considered taking it to a glass shop that deals in classic car windshield and glass.

It's possible that the screws are 'inside' the ring, with invisible or near-invisible plugs over them SI've seen that, too. Ai have two with the cap screws a9 I measured them tonight, and they are 2.5mm.

If you are talking a bout the. Bike in your avatar, you would most likely not have #2 s that was on the Sport fairing, not the touring fairing that you have. it is possible that there were other cross-overs/combinations, so I'll check my other's tomorrow when I have a chance.

hogfiddles and dadoseven. These are the pieces that came with the purchase as I mentioned earlier in the thread. Just had a chance to dig them out. Obviously the red parts are from the xj750 I parted out and not the seca If anyone would need any of these pieces I'd be stoked to just do a trade,or I'd buy, the appropriate brackets needed to affix the cases on my bike

I will not use any of it for my project

I totally get that something is worth what the buyer is willing to pay so any help in what it's worth is also appreciated as none of it is on eBay as far as the brackets r concerned

Thanks again for all your help already

    Joe

I am assuming the pic of brackets on seat of my bike is something for the side cases as they have a bit of hard plastic still attached from where p.o. Broke it off

Those look more like the brackets for the lower part of the touring fairing.

Correct-- those are the small brackets that anchor the low front point of the touring fairing lowers.
    image.jpeg

Your third pic, #882, is the mounting bracket for the touring fairing.
    image.jpeg

These are the mounting brackets you need to find to install the saddlebags/trunk assembly

Here are some more pics of the pieces needed for mounting the hard cases.

The brackets @hogfiddles posted a picture of previously as installed.
    IMG_2771.JPG

The luggage rack; which can be used stand-alone but also gives something to mount the side cases and trunk to.
    IMG_2768.JPG
It is in three pieces, actually four, including the reinforcement plate on the underside.
Left and right side pieces and the center piece.

Image of the side. Three bolts pass through the side cases from the inside and get threaded onto nuts on the back side of the side plates. As you can see, there is a rectangular recess to accommodate side reflectors if running the luggage carrier by itself.
    IMG_2769.JPG

And the underside, showing the reinforcement plate of the center section.
