Hey everyone, I'm working on my 85 xj700 air cooled and I measured my shims and I'm out of spec, so what I found its intake- 0.11-0.15 exhaust-0.16-0.20, my intake is- 1)0.11 shim 275 (2)0.09 shim 275(3)0.11 shim 275 (4)0.07 shim 270 my exhaust-(1) 0.16 shim 265(2)0.08 shim 265(3)0.12 shim 260(4)0.10 shim 265 and my calculations come up with replacement shims intake-(1) OK (2) 270 (3) OK (4) 265. Exhaust-(1) OK (2) 255 (3) 255 (4) 255 I think I'm good right or should I change the others because they are on the low end? Any input helps thanks

member hogfiddles runs a shim pool or you can buy them direct from member chacal.
shims in spec are just that in spec
    your shims
    intake is
    - 1)0.11 shim 275 good
    (2)0.09 shim 275 out need 270
    (3)0.11 shim 275 good
    (4)0.07 shim 270 out need 265 swap 270 into I #2
    my exhaust-
    (1) 0.16 shim 265 good
    (2)0.08 shim 265 out need 255 swap 265 into I#4
    (3)0.12 shim 260 out need 255
    (4)0.10 shim 265 out need 255
so you need to get 3 at 255 then you can swap 265 into I4 and the 270 into I2

    and my calculations come up with replacement shims intake-(1) OK (2) 270 (3) OK (4) 265. Exhaust-(1) OK (2) 255 (3) 255 (4) 255

you have it correct. if you are concerned about the in spec but on the tight side shims you can look for BMW shims because they come in what i call 1/4 sizes example 2.60, 2.625 2.65

I have a 270 I'm about to not need... 82 Seca 750, not sure if it's the same shim...

Although now that I look again I guess you are OK for 270 to just move one...
