I finally finished my bike and got it back home in Brooklyn. Exciting for me and nerve racking. One of the mods i did to the bike is i moved the ignition to under the seat losing the ability to lock the forks. I thought maybe there would be aftermarket solutions for this and to my dismay there is none.

Does anyone have any recommendations? the bike will be kept out on the street. I plan on buying an abus 8077 disc lock kryptonite new york chain and a brake grip lock. Is there anything else i should do? an alarm on my bike wont work. No place to put it and i dont have the battery strength.

Locks are for keeping honest people honest. A thief is not deterred by a lock or chain.
Get to know your neighbors, park near a light, better yet if there are any security cameras in the area or get a trunk monkey... not sure if they work on bikes.

    The joys of Midwest living....

When I was in Chicago in the mid 80's I used a chain and a pole. Chain hasn't been used since I moved to Midwest. Then again, I do have a garage.

Here is a product. It won't stop your bike from getting stolen, but may help with recovery:

    https://store.thetrackr.com/pixel/?..._medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_term=trackr

No guarantee that you can recover, but you never know. The way it works; the more people that have the product and thereby have the app on their phone, the better the chances. You would hide the TrackR somewhere under the seat and if stolen, register the item as stolen through the app. Then anytime any other user is in the proximity of the bike (TrackR module), it will relay the information to the main server which in turn alerts you of the location. This uses bluetooth technology so there is a distance are limitation which is around 300 feet that a cell phone can detect the module. Replaceable battery life on these units are 1 year. For $25 bucks, its cheap insurance, albeit not perfect.

    Buy a chain.
    Buy an alligator.
Chain the alligator to the bike.

It helps if you keep the bike looking ugly.

If you use this and the bike gets taken, do not try to recover it yourself. Get the police involved so you do not compromise your safety.

Try not to leave it at the same place night after night (not easyI know).. Also if I'm going away for a while I've been known to take a wheel off and lock it in the house/flat..
