I'm curious if anyone can help me figure out how to install this windshield. I just purchased my 81 650 maxim today and the owner never used it so he couldn't help me.

Any help would be much appreciated

    Which windshield do you have?
Is it the Yamaha unit, or aftermarket?

Nice looking, but are you sure it is for your bike? If so, it appears to me to possibly be missing some of the mounting hardware. Someone here will know. For what it's worth, I have a Memphis Shades Hellcat windshield and really like it. Handlebar mount and fairly inexpensive but look good and works very well.

I am not sure since the previous owner got it from the owner before him and had never tried to use it.

I have a Vetter fairing, similar situation... got it with the bike never put it on.
I would think that there should be some clamp like brackets where it would mount to the bike frame in the front...

I'm not entirely positive, bcause I don't have tha particular fairing in my collction to look at, but I don't think the brackets you have are the brackets for that fairing.
I'd start by searching on Ebay to see what you do, and do not, have.

Thanks k-moe, I'll take a look. Worst case I can always buy another or ride without one. Never had one before.

I think you would like a windshield if you tried one. I love my Memphis Shades Hellcat shield.

That actually went on the first generation virago, but I think you're still missing a couple clamps. The bottom of the rod mounts to the fork clamp bolt, the upper holes mount to the fairing, but ai think you still need the ones that attack to the top of the forks or to the handlebars. It's been awhile, so my mind is a bit fuzzy on that part.....

Yeah, I never did till I threw mine together, now I'd hate to go back to no windscreen.

So much less fatigue on long rides at highway speeds.

I don't like the look of windscreens, but I am tired of fighting the wind. Does function follow form? I haven't decided yet, and I probably won't until I get my next bike. Not planning to do much to the Rebel except ride it.

@MattiThundrrr If you look at that pic I posted in your other post, you can see my wife's rebel with a spitfire. It works really well in the wind and will fit many bikes, you can keep it when you upgrade. I have the same windshield on my Maxim. Fairings do even a better job but I don't care for the look.

I too like the look of my bike without a windshield. Since 90% of the time I am in town at less than 30 mph, I leave the windshield off. With it on, I get too hot, and it doesn't look as good.

I leave two of the small headlight bucket brackets on the bike so I can remount it in less than 15 minutes if I go on the road.

Yeah that's the only type I could go for. I just don't like the big ones with the chrome strips on them... Too obvious.
