Since the Yami dealer wants 50 bucks a plug cap for my 1986 750 Maxim X, does anybody know of an aftermarket supplier like NGK or anyone who may still make these?

    Thanks!

NGK makes some 5K plug caps in various "angles." They are a couple bucks apiece. I used them with stock wire and 5k resistor sparkplugs to bring my XJ550 to the stock 10k total resistance.

Not sure what the Maxim X specs call for with regard to plug cap resistance.

Thanks. These buggers are long straight and have a massive rubber boot to plug the spark plug wells
Definitely not your conventional 90 degree Bakelite style cap.

The most likely problem with old caps is high resistance, either because of corrosion or because the internal resistor has burned out. Fortunately they are rebuildable for little or no cost - here is a great tutorial: http://www.maxim-x.com/pix/plugcaps/x_plug_cap_conversion.pdf
You can either replace the tiny little resistor, or remove it and insert a little piece of brass or stainless steel rod. If you remove it then you should use a resistor spark plug. That's what I did and it worked great.
