Now Dave did you do the chap thing only wearing a codpiece, just to spice things up?
My wife gave up keeping track of all my bikes but she know enough about bikes that she knows if there is a new one on the lot. My answer.... oh that's what's his names bike here to be worked on .
But if is stays here more than a week she gives me the stink eye.

That Seca is pretty nice. To my eye, the valve cover looks like bare metal, drips on it are from washing. But, the ugly monster faring, back rest and luggage rack MUST GO!!
The xs is sooo nice! Too nice for Matti? I'd almost be hesitant to ride it!

Was just looking closer... was the valve cover sprayed?... bummer, still a good deal though[/QUOTE]
I sold them new in 81 and had one of my own, don't remember them having a black valve cover. Someone here will have an original brochure pic. Found one.

Really nice and clean, and actually a pretty reasonable price too particularly considering the condition.

I can't imagine a lot of people lining up to drop 3500 on an old 250. It's pretty, for sure, but it's still a 250.

Holy crap, that looks showroom floor minty.

I mean, it fits the thread perfectly because it's hopelessly optimistic, but sweet merciful carp, that is an immaculate bike for 35 years old. Wow.

Yep, EVERYTHING needs to be gone through... the bike has hardly rolled in 30 some years, fluids are probably junk, clutch plates, any rubber is still OEM, etc.

But holy time machine boner Batman. That is some nice eye candy!!!

He might get that, something is only original once and while you could do a nice resto for $6k it wouldn't be original. People are starting to pay stupid money for original cars, 80's bikes might trend that way sometime. Might be someone out there with some $$ to burn on an original bike that will just get stored. If I had $$$ I'd consider it. One to store and one to ride ;)

True that - Barret Jackson auctions are a great example.

Confess, that when we had cable I would love watching the Barret Jackson auctions and fantasize about having the kind of money to buy one of those vehicles or having the money to do a ground up/ every bolt and washer restoration of a classic. For me a 'classic' would be my 75 IH Scout with the slant 4 in it....

That is why I'm keeping my 83 XJ550 original paint, chrome, aluminum. The aluminum looks peaked from the coating rubbing off, and a bit of oxidation. However, with the exception of a replacement seat and replacement OEM grips, it is what I drove off the showroom (less safety items like brake lines and tires). I still have the original cracked seat to put on for shows (the original is in the picture).

Could I make it perfect with restore? Yes. Would it then be original? No, and there is no going back. I'm guessing not many of these XJ are still factory.

    I ride it everyday.

well I do not like to refer to KBB for prices that bike would be 1500$ in my area if in excellent condition at a dealership.
has 35 yearold gas in tank if your lucky. there will be no gas in carbs....... rusted inside tank?

there is one thing missing from the cl post the most important thing

This bike is running so to me that means bike not running and the seller could not get it running and wants to sell it as an original owner bike shady from the start.

2000$ tops just because of the low milage

Some doofus will step up thinking that it will be a turn key bike needing nothing, and hope to ride it before winter. Poor sucker...

On an unrelated question, how far is California from Ontario, and what would a guy have to do to get an American Seca registered in Canada? Finally, anyone wanna "lend" me 6 grand?

That's a nice little scoot, and I don't think the price is all that optimistic, if it runs as well as it looks...

If it had been maintained in running condition with new rubber components and such, that'd be a different story. I suspect it's just sat in a (climate controlled) garage for decades, though. Only 1600 miles.

Sorry I wasn't being specific enough. When I said "nice little scoot, price not too optimistic," I was referring to this one:
I'd love to see that Seca, but it is waaaaay outta my price range!
