I purchased a replacement 6 position blade style fuse block with cover a while ago. I opted for the 6 giving me space to carry 2 spare fuses.....problem is the block is to high with the cover on, the bottom of the seat pan pushes on the air-box. I definitely do not want my body weight riding on the air box and in turn the back of the carb boots. I have about 1.25 inches of clearance max, and that would be tight. Does anyone know of a setup that is slim like OEM? The current block barely fits with the cover off....

    What I have:

    Maybe something like this:

I don't know, height is the issue I guess.

    Cheers,
    Brad

buy one from chacal has instructions and locations
    look here
XJ PARTS CATALOG, SECTION D: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
or relocate the fuse box to under sidecover, tool tray

the car van boat one looks like it is a buss feed which leaves all your fuses hot even after key is off. you could use inline fuse holders for flat blade fuses

XJ650 all models (except Turbo) and all 1981-83 XJ750 models: the stock fusebox lays on top of the air cleaner box lid. The replacement fuseblock can go in the same area, but some care must be taken as to positioning to make sure that the bottom of the seat pan does not contact the top of clear cover of the fuseblock. You will have to slightly reposition the fuseblock from the original mounting holes to get everything to line up properly, and you may have to remove the small plastic "document holder" that snaps into the bottom of the seat pan to secure proper clearance. Most clearance issues on these models can be resolved with the use of our FITMENT TEMPLATE and SEAT SPACER KIT listed further below.

Here are the basic steps needed, shown on an XJ650 Maxim model; XJ650RJ Seca and XJ750 Maxim and Seca models are similar. Although this how-to uses a 4-circuit replace fusebox, our 6-circuit panel installs in the same manner:

I do have a second stock harness with a stock fuse block....i measured with playdoh squish and i only have just less than 1.25 inches of clearance. Maybe 4 individual mini holders would work. Im trying to avoid being stuck along the road someware...lol

I didnt think about relocation to alternate location....hmmmm

i use the inline mini fuse holders but when you buy 4 it costs as much as a fuse block.
longer wires are the cheapest fix relocate

    you could try this
HCP12836 Aftermarket 6-circuit fusebox SEAT SPACER KIT, for use with all XJ650 Maxim and Midnight Maxim models, all 1981-83 XJ750 models, and XJ900 models. Contains a set of 4 rubber frame tube "spacers" and a spacer mounting location template. NOTE: depending on your weight, airbox adjustment position, and the condition of your seat pan (they tend to "sag" over time), the use of these spacers may or may not be required on individual bikes.

I used the same type of fuse block. Use a file or sander to shave the bottom of the fuse block. It's thicker than it needs to be.

You can also look for a fusebox where the wires connect from beneath (axial mount). Create a small bracket to mount it on it's side. Makes it a bit harder to swap fuses, but you shouldn't have to do that very often and it requires a lot less height.

problem is that the fuses are connected to each other between the screws you may be able to cut that connection

It looks like that jumper between fuses may be removeable.

When I replaced my fuse box years ago, I used inline, waterproof fuse holders and moved away from glass fuses. At the time, inline were all I could find locally. It started with only one of the fuses in the original holder (main). By the end of the summer, I had changed them all over to inline.

If I had to do it again, I would use a nice fuse box from Chacal. In the meantime, I tend to dork things up with "upgrading".....so I will let a working setup lie.....its served me for half a decade or more with inline.
