Hi. I was adjusting my clutch on my 1982 Seca 750 and I turned the ignition on to see if the neutral green light was coming on. For some reason I did that twice and the second time i heard a sound coming from the coils ( I assume) and the smell of burnt rubber came on. Sure enough I could not start after that. Was the bike doing that when new? Do you always have to start the bike right away after you turn on the ignition?
I'm going to have to stock a dozen solenoid if that's the case.
    Thanks

    Hi Junior
The Yamaha ignition shuts off power to coils if you don't start the bike within 5-10 seconds. This power off condition will send a spark to plugs .Soon as you hit start button power to coils resumes.
So does your bike turn over or just a click from solenoid?
And is your battery showing 12.6 or better and check voltage when trying to start the bike. If voltage drops too low then ignition box will not fire coils

Hi Toomanybikes. Pressing on the start button makes no sound or clicks. I'm gonna get a new (used)solenoid tomorrow. I was using a new China made one and I was told it could be the reason. I will also check the battery. Thanks,

that should not happen due to the tci shutting down. tci shuts off internally leaving power on to solenoid and the rest of the ignition system ( red/white wire).
how long did you have the current solenoid?

when tci shuts off if there is unburned fuel you get a back fire , the tci is not the cause of your solenoid problem.
solenoid is connected to hot all the time starter button is to ground.
so even if the coils caused a power surge on the primary side it should not affect solenoid.
i will look at wiring diagram again .
I think you just had a bad solinoid with an internal short . we had another member who lost 2 or 3

the oil light is also connected to the blue wire of the solinoid that is why it lights up when you press the starter button it is a test of the bulb.

we have another member who lost 2 or 3 cheep solenoids but never replied to questions about brand or source of them.
