Hi I have a yamaha xj 550 seca 1981 running nice but I have one small issue that has recently occurred the oil light stays on even with the correct amount of oil . It tends to get brighter with more revs I give it then when the revs are reduced it fades out . Is this an oil pressure problem and am I doing any harm to the engine or could it be the oil level sensor problem or something else causing this thanks for any input

The oil light indicates oil level, not pressure. Most likely he float is stuck. Get a can of Seafoam, and follow the directions on the can for adding it to your oil. Usually that frees-up the float. The dimming and brightening as engine speed changes in normal, but it would be a good idea to check the condition of the alternator brushes.

If you have to if what Kmoe suggested , you can remove sensor and clean it ( but exhaust has to come off to get it out ) I know I did this not long ago.
