I think I have seen this subject brought up, but cant recall. (sorry if duplicating a question)
I have a 82 maxim 750 all working good, however on last couple rides I noticed that when I get on the throtlle (full open and sometimes 3/4) while cruising in a gear for awhile my engine and tach run up high, but mph's raise slightly, if I feather the throttle a little all is good and it takes off very well. Hoping its not a major clutch issue, I have noticed never happends in 5th. Example of this was cruising side street 30mph in 3rd turned on to a street with 55mph and gave full throttle, RPM's jumped up and motor reve'd with no major speed increase, let off throttle then back on and bike took off VERY well. any suggestions or fixes? or is this normal on XJ's? thanks to all

sounds like clutch slipping... yes - there was a really good discussion on this lately... you should be able to find it by searching for slipping.

Basically - try adjusting your clutch cable first. If that doesn't fix it then you might need to rebuild your clutch.

Not too too bad - but it's easier to adjust the cable ;)

I think the non-X kits are relatively easy to find - Gurp had a problem finding X clutch springs.
