I just acquired a 83 XJ 750 from a co-worker that has sat up for over a year. He gave me the bike because the engine was locked up but I took the plugs out and sprayed each cylinder with PB Blast and got it free by putting it in 3rd and rocking it back and forth. Today I sorted out a no spark issue and actually got it to fire off. One problem I did run into was one of the plugs was cross threaded into the head and the other is these stupid pull back handle bars. For the plug, should I keep my eyes our for another head or is there another option I can do? For the bars, I would like a straighter set but the issue will be the weird angle the mirror mounts as well as master cylinder will be in. Is there another bike I can get these parts that will work on the XJ? Thank you in advance.

You could do a helicoil for the spark plug

A thread chaser is another thing you can try or as Wgul suggested a heli coil kit..Oreilly or Autozone or NAPA .

A Heli-coil can be done with head in place just use a large wad of grease on the cutting tool to trap aluminum shavings.

If you switch to flatter bars, you'll need to switch to mirror mounts/MC that are for flatter bars. Otherwise, you'll have that "odd-angle" thing going on

You mean the extreme angle that the MC would be in? Is brake fluid REALLY needed for the brakes to work? ;)

I have a question that I trust is relevant to the topic. Have acquired a XJ750RL, 1984 model, that I am restoring from a few boxes of parts. The fuel system is spagetti - 4 Vac hoses and 3 fuel hoses from carbs, but only one each from tank. And so far web searches are not helping. Do I need some small manifold fitting? See pic. Vac hoses at top, fuel below.

    - The four top ones are vent tubes
    - The two middle ones are overflow tubes
    - The low one in the center is your fuel supply tube from the petcock

Could you also please send me a conversation....I'd like to get a little bit of info so I can register your 750rl on the addendum to the 900rk registry.

    Thanks,
    Dave F
