Been a few days since I have posted anything.
Going to change the left control switch for the turn signals and the horn. I haven't had a working horn since I bought the bike, not the horns themselves but the inner part of the switch has been broken. Day off and I need to do something till it warms up and then off to the races.

Last week was able to ride in the afternoons and surprising I only saw one other bike out and about. Might be because it was hovering around 32 degrees as the high. Very Cold for this location oddly no rain just cold. Rain in the forecast for the next couple of days then back to cold.
Noticed that both my front forks are leaking oil. Not sure why I just had them done two years ago.
What I did notice is that one day when it was like 25 degrees out, I went out riding and during the ride, I noticed the oil residue on the forks themselves.
Another project once it starts to rain regularly

Last few days I have been able to ride around town, and by this, I mean around Medford Oregon. Usually takes about an hour to take the scenic route to circumvent the city. Looks beautiful from afar and even better once I get some elevation.

May the New Year bring many more happy riding miles to everyone.

Well changed out the control witch for the horn and turn signals and that didn't work. Got power to the horns but nothing happens when I push the button.
power on = power to horn
push horn button = no interuption of the power to the horn
    Any ideas

It's too damn cold! If it were a little warmer, I'd be willing to go sit on it and wish I was riding. Too cold even for that!

Found a good price on a new (to me) speed/tach for xj650 #2. The current gauge is really faded and has a busted housing. May have to push the baby into the kitchen from the unheated garage to make the switch. Wishful thinking only

Switch is after the horn. Switch should allow the horn to ground. Its wired a bit wierdly imho, but there should be +12v at the horn all the time. As you've got power there's the fuse is good.

If you stick a meter on the switch itself, you should have no continuity between the terminals with the button off, and continuity with the button pressed, right? Just to confirm the switch is working. Also, you should have continuity from the switch to ground all the time with one terminal, and only while the button is pressed off the other terminal.

Rumour has it we'll go from the -30 we've had over the last week to back above freezing on New year's day. The street I live on is all packed snow and gravel, but the main roads are already cleared, hoping I can get out and ride a bit then.

Went out for a nice ride. Got rear ended at a stoplight. Luckily just a tap enough to bend the license plate. Same spot I got rear ended in a car about 10 years back

The real wheel that's already on it. There's very little clearance between the swingarm and the wheel as it stands, there's no room for a wider wheel. Just look at how small that gap is.

Damn I feel as though I am riding in the summer as it is only 34 here in southern Oregon with a high of 50.
I still riding with a baklava which has stopped the wind from going down my neck. So much better.

Sorry, I hate to be that guy, but now I'm picturing you riding having crammed baklava around your neck. I imagine the honey may help seal your neckline, but you'll end up with filo pastry and pine nuts everywhere ;)

Us too; so weird. Went from -30c to +2c literally overnight. Walk outside, and after weeks of "it's so cold it hurts your face" suddenly it feels like it's summer.

Walked outside and looked at my bike then walked further to see that the fog is so thick that you can barely see halfway down the block. Weather guessers say it supposed to rain for the next few days. Covered bike with bike cover sigh of sorrow :(

As my wife put it I am not made of SUGAR I sucked it put on my snival gear AKA inclement weather gear I went riding. Logged in another 40+ miles and low and behold the sun came out! :)
Wife gets off at 2pm and stated that she also would like to go for I ride.
Being who I am I had to ask me or the bike ?
Her reply is maybe both but the bike first YEAH!
Never pass an opportunity like that up.

Although it is hovering around 38 degrees my x takes a little bit to warm up also. Gives me time to put on my snival gear for the ride.
Logged another 40 miles with the wife. Took her to a ma and pa hamburger joint that she loves to eat at. Get back and all the grandkids are here, guess that puts the kabash on riding the wife LMAO
Ah the joys of grandparent hood.
Rain tomorrow then sunny for two days followed by a weeks of rain.
May be a good time to actually change the pods back over to the original airbox. Oh wait winter term begins Monday the 8th of January.

Got to ride to work the last couple days wearing my new bright yellow reflective motor cycle jacket. I was afraid that people would laugh at me when I got hit wearing all black gear on my all black bike after dark. Now people will just laugh at the irony when I get hit wearing my bright yellow reflective motorcycle jacket.

It's been 4 Celsius and fairly dry here so my short 5k ride to work is mostly pleasant.

My odometer just turned over 40k yesterday. I'm not too excited though because it is a replacement and the mileage is really closer to 20k.

So jealous! We're having a Chinook, with temps up around 10c (a far cry from -35 last week) but the side roads are still covered in lot of snow. If it stays warm, may take the XJ out for a really cautious ride on Sat though.

I too have a bike like yours although mine is the X model of 1986 and I to wear all black-only due to a motorcycle outlet store was going out of business and everything was 1/2 half and it was in the midst of winter. Didn't think about the 90+ degrees for at least three months of summer

Redardless of what we are wearing people still don't see motorcyclists. Something to do with how our brain stores images in little blocks of information rather than a continious or constant viewing of images. I happened to catch a documentary on how the brain stores images and it really made sense to me.

I think that the best gear or lack of proper gear to be seen is a youtuber who wears a chicken suit while riding. Definitely gets noticed and that is what is important!

    RIDE SAFE MY FRIENDS

Temps were 57 degrees but it was raining and humid , pulled in garage and thought I'd try to start bike....No joy kept backfiring , Wife comes out "Why are you trying to start it you can't ride " My answer because I want to hear it run , I had winterized it so probably should not have tried . Today temp is 22 degrees :( and Saturday 8 degrees , I guess it is time to pull carbs and clean fuel enrichment circuit , but this will wait till temps go up 60 days and counting till spring .

I agree. I will be switching to those gauges at some point in the future when I do some other mods. The tach in your link is cable driven? Mine is electronic, I'll have to find one of those. Does the ratio they list on link of the one you used matter for an electronic one?
